The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that it is fully prepared
for the forthcoming general elections slated for February, contrary to
the views of the opposition.Mr Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity
Secretary, stated this in a statement on Monday in Abuja. He added that
the support the PDP enjoys among Nigerians from the ward to the national
level, was a sure guarantee to victory for the party in the elections. He
described APC’s allegations of plots to postpone the elections as a
tactic to divert attention from the findings of the Directorate of State
Security Services (DSS).
The DSS, recently, alleged that the APC had devised means to hack into
INEC’s data base, clone the Permanent Voter’s Card and ultimately
compromise the outcome of the general elections
Metuh, added that nothing could be more evident that the APC was not
preparing to face the electorate than the frivolous and unfounded
allegations and use of propaganda.
This, the PDP spokesman said, was in an effort to hoodwink Nigerians even in the face of clear proof of culpability.
“The PDP is fully ready for the coming elections. Our leaders and
members are working hard in all the nooks and crannies of the country,
leveraging on our existing grassroots appeal.
“Wide-spread political structures, a track-record of performance and
abiding affinity and loyalty to the people. We have very popular and
acceptable hard working candidates which the people are anxious to vote
for.
“Our Presidential flagbearer, President Goodluck Jonathan, with
verifiable achievements and commitment to national unity remains the
candidate to beat,’’ Metuh said.
He maintained that the PDP, had engaged on issue-based campaigns for the
forthcoming general elections and had effectively shown Nigerians that
it could be trusted.
He added that President Jonathan had also demonstrated strength of
character and sincerity of purpose in his handling of state affairs.
The PDP spokesman held that Nigerians were therefore, desirous to demonstrate their support for President Jonathan come Feb. 14.
“The PDP has successfully communicated its unique selling points and achievements to the electorate.
“ And a greater majority of Nigerians are now able to distinguish
between facts and mere propaganda, which is the hallmark of the APC,’’
the statement quoted Metuh as saying.
He advised the APC to desist from engaging in distortion of facts and
propagating of lies and blackmail in an attempt to score cheap political
point.
He further added that the APC should rather, explain to Nigerians its
apparent involvement in efforts to undermine INEC records with a view to
corrupt the electoral process (NAN)
