Ogun immigration service arrests 50 illegal immigrants

The men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, has arrested 50 illegal immigrants in the state.
The state Comptroller of Immigration Service, Mrs. Victoria Isang, while briefing journalists on Wednesday in Abeokuta, said the feat was achieved due to the command’s zero tolerance for illegal entry into the country.
Giving the breakdown of the illegal immigrants according to their nationalities, she said they comprised 29 Beninoise, 11 Nigeriens, and 10 Togolese.
She said they would be repatriated to their different countries within 24 hours.
She said they were arrested at different locations in the Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
Isang said, “Through our intelligence and other avenues of tracking illegal immigrants, we were able to arrest these 50 illegal immigrants.

“We have discovered that these illegal immigrants come in through the expansive borderlines in the state.
“I want to reiterate that the state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to ensuring that Ogun State is rid of all categories of illegal immigrants.”
Isang said the command had earlier on February 6 repatriated a total of 69 Togolese, who were illegal immigrants.
She added that 147 illegal immigrants were repatriated by the command in 2014.
Isang warned that foreigners in the state should steer clear from voting during the forthcoming elections, as anyone caught would be dealt with according to the law of the land.
She said, “Any foreigner who under false declaration is found in possession of the Permanent Voter Card or Nigeria national identity card with a view to partaking in the election process shall be severely dealt with in accordance with the law.”
