The Ondo State Police Command has arrested suspected political thugs and
cult members allegedly unleashing violence in different parts of the
state.Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke, while parading the suspects,
said the command was out to ensure that the elections were peaceful and
without bloodshed.He noted that those arrested would be investigated and
prosecuted so that they would not have the chance to be involved in any
violence before and after the elections.Eke said the command was able
to make the arrests through the cordial relationship the police had with
the members of the public.The CP said, “The Ondo State Police Command
will ensure that the elections are peaceful and devoid of bloodshed.“The
suspects that have been arrested will be investigated and prosecuted.
They will not be given the chance to be involved in any violence before
and after the elections.“I must also add that the
command was able to make the arrests through the robust relationship the
police have with the members of the public.”He noted that his men
succeeded in picking up one of the highly notorious and wanted cultists
in the state, Kola Adigun.Along with Adigun were other 33 suspected
cultists belonging to different cult groups.Adigun, who spoke to
reporters in Yoruba, admitted that he was a member of the Eiye Cult, but
had renounced his allegiance.He also admitted his involvement in
political thuggery, and mentioned other notorious persons such as one
Ade Basket, who he said was also involved in perpetrating violence in
the city.He said the police should also ensure that Ade Basket and other
gang leaders were arrested if there would be peaceful elections in the
state.Adigun said he was a strong supporter of the All Progressives
Congress, denying that he was involved in any criminal activities.The
police boss stressed the readiness of the command to tackle any form of
violence before, during and after the general elections. He urged
parents to warn their wards to shun anything that could put them in
trouble.
