Cristiano Ronaldo should be dropped from the Real Madrid side according to 32 per cent of the club’s fans. A poll in a leading Spanish newspaper revealed that nearly a third of supporters want boss Carlo Ancelotti to remove the ex-Manchester United ace from the team following their side’s 1-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao. The poll revealed that the Madrid fans want the club to revert back to a 4-4-2 formation and would prefer the Ballon d’Or winner to be relegated to the bench over French striker Karim Benzema. Ronaldo has bagged
a stunning return of 30 goals in 23 games for Los Blancos in the league this season, but clearly the fans are willing to sacrifice the superstar for the good of the team. The news was even worse for ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale however, with 46 per cent of fans calling for him to be left out of the side. The Welshman has received a great deal of flak from the supporters of late and has been tipped for a summer move to Manchester United. Ronaldo himself was touted for a move back to Old Trafford earlier this week after reports claimed that club president Florentino Perez was willing to cash in on his 30-year-old talisman. And Louis van Gaal’s ears will surely prick up at the news that the Portugal captain has fallen out of favour with fans at the Bernabeu as he looks to rebuild United as a major force in football.
