Two Arraigned For Mugging Woman At ATM


Two men were, yesterday, docked before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for mugging a woman and stabbing a man with a knife at an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, spot. The defendants are John Luka, 21, and Bulus Amos, 23. They are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and assault occasioning harm, preferred against them by the police. The prosecutor, Inspector Livinus Okeke, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at 12.30p.m. on May 2 at the ATM of Union Bank, Ojomu Market, Lekki, Lagos. atm2
Okeke alleged that the defendants tried to steal money from one Miss Pauline Ogebe, who had just finished making use of the ATM and that Mr. Unity Osayuwame, who saw the attack, intervened, but was stabbed. Okeke added that Osayuwame and Ogebe raised an alarm which alerted passersby, leading to the defendants’ arrest. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate L. A. Owolabi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N40,000 with two sureties in like sum. Owolabi adjourned the case to May 25 for mention.
