Two Principals of Secondary Schools in Ebonyi State and their vices have been suspended without
salaries. The suspended principals are Mrs. Egbe P. I of Comprehensive Secondary School,
Otuokpeye Umusoke and Mr. Idioma Simon of Union Secondary School, Ndiagu Igube all in Ohaukwu local government area of the state. They were suspended for absenteeism.
Also, 45 classroom teachers in the two schools will forfeit their one month salaries for same
offence. The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. John Eke announced this at the weekend after
unscheduled visit to the two schools. He said the visit followed series of complaints by members of the communities where the school.are located and parents of the students that teachers no longer come to the schools to teach students. He expressed dismay that when he visited Union Secondary school out of the thirty five (35) teachers in the school, only seven (7) were present while only one out of eighteen(18) teachers in Comprehensive Secondary School, Otuokpeye Umusoke was seen during the visit. Prof. told Sunday Telegraph in his office that the ministry will sanction more teachers who have been absconding from duties.
‘’We are going to hit more teachers on this issue. We are serious about this because our educational
standard cannot continue to be in this terrible condition’’. He said the defaulters who have been crowding his office are compounding their cases as he was not ready to pardon them but will sanction them the more for leaving their duty posts to his office. ‘’If they like let them continue crowding my office. Am not ready to listen to their pleadings ‘’In fact, am going to punish them the more because they don’t have any reason to come to my
office for leniency when they supposed to be in their duty post teaching students. Meanwhile, some government officials who are relations to some of the affected teachers have since the sanction been trooping into the Commissioner’s office with the sanctioned teachers apparently for leniency.
Others who do not have top officials were seen at the corridors leading to the Commissioner’s
office.
