The ‘impeached’ Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Mr. Momoh Jimoh-Lawal, and 14 other members of the assembly on Wednesday petitioned the House of Representatives, seeking the latter’s intervention in the brewing crisis. Findings showed that the Kogi lawmakers had submitted
the petition to the House of Representatives’ Majority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, for transmission to the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara. The petition was submitted to Gbajabiamila in his office at the National Assembly in the presence of his deputy, Mr. Buba Jibrin, who is also from Kogi
State. The details of the document were not immediately disclosed, but an official in Gbajabiamila’s office confided to Punch correspondent that the Kogi lawmakers believed that the “purported impeachment was a joke.”The official spoke more, “The petition is seeking the intervention of the House in the Kogi crisis, because that is what it has become.“Fifteen members of the House, including Jimoh-Lawal, are here. That tells you where the majority lies. “How can the minority impeach the majority? They believe that it is a joke”, the source added. Some members of the state assembly had earlier in the week announced the removal of Jimoh-Lawal, his deputy, Mr. Alih Ajuh and the majority leader, Mr. Kolawole Matthew.
