President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday promised that justice would be served in the case of the Igbo market woman, Mrs. Bridget Agbahime, who was killed by an agry mob in Kano.Describing the
incident as sad and regrettable, Buhari condoled with the husband of the deceased, Pastor Mike Agbahime, the family and relations, praying that God would give them the fortitude to bear the
loss.Buhari’s message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.“The incident at Kofar Wambai market, Kano city, is utterly condemnable, and the state government has been quite proactive.“Let us ensure that we keep the peace, as justice will be done. Let us learn to respect each other’s faith, so that we can know each other and live together in peace,” the President said. But as condemnations continue to trail the murder of Mrs. Bridget Agbahiwe in Kano, an eyewitness has disclosed that the 74-year-old trader was killed following her refusal to allow a male co-trader use the front of her shop for ablution. The eyewitness, Iruka Okoro, told our correspondent that shortly after the minor dispute resulting from Agbahiwe’s refusal, some irate youths armed with daggers and knives attacked her, stabbed her several times and slit her throat.According to Okoro, who is a member of the Igbo Community Association in Kano, late Agbahiwe’s attackers alleged that she blasphemed Prophet Muhammad, hence their decision to attack her.“The murder of Mrs Bridget Agbahiwe was a big slap on the Igbo Community Association. I do not see the reason why somebody’s refusal to allow a fellow trader perform ablution in front of her shop should lead to her death.“Her assailants killed her for politely telling her co-trader to go to his shop and wash his legs before prayers. Some irate youths sliced her throat like a cow.”Also, the witness recalled that the owner of the premises, where they both had their stalls, had on more than one occasion intervened in the dispute between the late woman and the co-trader.“The landlord instructed the male co-trader to confine himself to his side of the market, as well as perform his ablution there,” he said.
