One Year Old Baby Lost After 18 Year Old Mother Sold Her For N300,000

Okike Ezinne, an 18 year old girl from Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi state has been arrested by the police for selling her one year and six month old baby, Chisom Raphael.Okike Ezinne
sold her 18-month-old baby to a 46-year-old lady, Mrs Gloria Okafor, for N300,000. In a press statement from the office of the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said Ezinne, Mrs Okafor and her girlfriend, Miss Promise Godwin, who linked her to the deal, have been arrested.Ezinne told the police that her baby whom she named Chisom Raphael was born out of wedlock and when the care for her became a serious bur­den to her, her friend (Prom­ise Godwin), about 20 years old and a native of Isu Mbaneze in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, advised her to relocate to Enugu, with a promise to find her a helper.According to Ezinne, they were living at Coal Camp axis of Enugu metropolis, un­til Godwin left to join commer­cial sex workers at the popular 4 Corner Junction along Enu­gu-Port Harcourt Expressway. There and then the realities of
hard times dawned on her once again, she lamented.Ezinne further explained that when Godwin resurfaced in March, she told her that she had perfected plans on how they can sell her baby to Mrs
Okafor, a married but childless woman who is in dire need of a child.She said that Okafor was ready to pay N300,000 for the baby.According to the police, Mrs Okafor who hails from Uturu was married to the late Sunday Okafor of Umudi Lok­panta in Abia State but went into illegal child adoption and sale of unwanted babies to pro­spective buyers.Ezinne said she accept­ed offer as the last option for her survival. To perfect the plot, Godwin arranged with a commercial cyclist who took them to Limca Bus Stop along at Okigwe in Imo State, along Enugu-Port Harcourt Road, where Okafor waited. She part­ed with her child after collec­tion the sum of N300,000.The police said investiga­tion revealed that they shared the money upon return to Enugu, with Ezinne receiv­ing N200,000 while Godwin collected N50,000. The bal­ance went to the motorcyclist, whom the police described as a client to Godwin in her broth­el.The police said the bub­ble on the dirty deal burst when Okafor and Godwin were hatching plans on how to sell her (Promise Godwin’s) 13-month- old baby, named Chiadikobi.Okafor told the police that she resold Ezinne’s baby to a client whom she doesn’t know her whereabouts.Okafor further revealed that Godwin Promise who is now eight months pregnant and also with a child of one year and a month, had also perfected arrangement to sell off the baby whom she named Chiadikaobi to a prospective buyer before they were nabbed by the Eagle eyed operatives of the Central Police Station of the Nigeria Police Enugu State command that had laid their dragnets at all corners.Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu who confirmed this report said the suspects are now helping police in their investigation and begging for forgiveness.Amaraizu said the suspects blamed the situation on acts of satan.
