Publisher of Policy and Lawmakers Magazine, a community-based newspaper in Kogi State, Mr. Friday Ogungbemi, has been arrested.He was reportedly picked up on Wednesday by officers of the
Department of State Services and still in their custody as of the time of filing this report. Saturday PUNCH gathered that Ogungbemi’s arrest and detention might be connected with an opinion article in the latest edition of the magazine, which focused on the Chief of Staff to the governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja.The article had criticised Onoja, describing him as overzealous and acting as if he was the governor of the state.Governor Yahaya Bello had in a recent broadcast vowed to deal with any journalist who engaged in what he described as “irresponsible journalism.”
