Two die during a ‘spiritual bath’ at a white-garment church in Lagos


Two brothers have died in the Ajah area of Lagos after they reportedly went to have a ‘spiritual bath’ at a white-garment church.PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased persons, Abiodun and Ayinde Oniru, had gone to the church to seek spiritual help on Thursday, December 18.It was gathered that 23-year-old Abiodun and Ayinde, 20, were reportedly told to go and have a bath.Our correspondent gathered that the two brothers were sent from the church situated on Ori-Oke Ibukun Street, Ilasan in Ajah, to have their bath at a stream in neighbouring Ogombo area.
It was gathered that they, however, got drowned during the bath.PUNCH Metro learnt that the matter was reported to the Ogombo Police Division, and the police stormed the church on Saturday to arrest the church pastor, identified simply as Olusoji.Our correspodnent gathered that Olusoji, had however taken to his heels, and the police then arrested the assistant pastor, whose names had yet to be known.
Our correspondent learnt that after the two brothers were discovered dead, some other church members withdrew from the church.It was gathered that Abiodun and Ayinde’s corpses had been deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary, Yaba, where an autopsy would be done.PUNCH Metro that the police were still on the trail of the church pastor.The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had arrested the assistant pastor.He said, “It is confirmed, and the police have arrested the assistant pastor, who doubles as the church secretary. Meanwhile, investigation continues on the matter.”
