Banks Shut In Ijebu Ode Over Fear Of Arm Robbery Attacks

For over a month now, commercial banks in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, have shut their doors against their customers for fear of armed robbery attacks.
The development has become the norm in Ijebu Ode as they (banks) also closed their doors late last year over the same fear.
Our correspondent gathered that the Armoured Personnel Carrier, which provide cover for the area, had been parked within the premises of the area command headquarters at Ogbe, in Ijebu Ode.
A source said the banks had not opened for business since the second week of January this year.
Even the Automatic Teller Machines in the town, our correspondent gathered, had stopped dispensing cash, as the money loaded into the machines had been exhausted by customers.
It was learnt that residents travelled as far as Ibadan and Sagamu before transacting any banking business, which the people in the town said had been affecting economic activities in the areas.
A resident of Ijebu Ode, Dayo Rufus, confirmed the development, saying he had been travelling to Sagamu and Abeokuta each time he needed to make cash withdrawal.
He said,”It is really serious here. Residents travel as far as Sagamu and Ibadan before they can make cash withdrawal or save money.
“The ATM in Ijebu Ode have all stopped dispensing cash. So, economic activities have really nosedived, since people don’t have money to spend.”
