INEC says it distributes 95% PVC in Gombe

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday disclosed that it had distributed 967,000 Permanent Voter Card in Gombe State, North-East Nigeria.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Kassim Gaidam, said this at a workshop organised for stakeholders in the state.
Gaidam said the cards so far distributed represented about 95 per cent of the 1,141,200 earmarked for the state.
The REC, who recently resumed duties in Gombe, said the massive enlightenment embarked upon by the commission was responsible for the success recorded, while urging the people of the state to step forward and collect the few remaining PVC to enable them to exercise their franchise.
He appealed to residents of Akko and Gombe Local Government Areas of the state to collect their cards, as they had the highest number of unclaimed PVC.
“We have distributed a total of 967,000 permanent voter cards now. For those who have not collected their own, they should please do so. I specifically appeal to our brothers and sisters in Akko and Gombe Local Government Areas to quickly come forward, because they have the highest number of unclaimed cards,” he said.

He said the stakeholders’ workshop was organised to further inform participants on the level of preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The REC disclosed that 15 political parties would participate in the elections in Gombe State, with only three of them fielding governorship candidates.
He pledged that INEC would be fair to all the parties and would provide a level playing ground for all candidates.
In his remarks, Gombe State Governor, Dr Ibrahim Dankwambo, thanked INEC for organising the workshop, which he said was very enriching.
He urged politicians to be persuasive and shun violence.
Dankwambo called on the electorate to be extra vigilant on the days of election, to check the activities of terrorists.
