The
police in Edo State on Friday paraded 43 suspected criminals arrested
by men of the command for various crimes committed across the state.
According the outgone Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo,
four persons were arrested for murder, including the murder of one
Angela Aifesehi, whose body was found on the Emotan College field in
Benin.
Eleven suspects were arrested for armed robbery, burglary and
impersonation; 13 were nabbed for kidnapping, nine suspects were
arrested for cultism and illegal possession of firearms while nine others were arrested for rape and defilement.
Recovered from some of the suspects were 13 locally-made guns, 20 live cartridges, one toy pistol and other exhibits.
Adebanjo,
who is expected to leave for the National Institute for Policy and
Strategic Studies, Jos, and has been replaced by Damilola Adegbuyi,
explained that Edo had become “better secured,” following the reduction
in crime rate in the state.
He added that the state had recorded “no single case” of bank robbery in the last two years.
“For two consecutive years, the government of United States of
America, in August 11, 2014, and February 2, 2015, in its travel alert
to her citizens, excluded Edo State among the state in Nigeria that her
citizens should not visit, because of the prevalence of violent crimes,
such as kidnapping, armed robbery and insurgency,” he added.
