Police Detain 3 Men For Allege Rape In Enugu

A suspected kidnapper, who specialises in raping his female victims, has been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Enugu State Police Command. The suspect, Emmanuel Nnamani along with three others, was accused of kidnapping a 27-year-old lady, Achike Chinwe Rita at Abakpa Nike Enugu, where she parked her car to buy some items by the roadside. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Adamu, who confirmed the incident, told Saturday Sunthat the suspects abducted the lady at about 3pm on January 27 at gunpoint. “They collected her handsets, rings, money and other valuables and threw her inside the boot of her Toyota Camry car, shot into the air and zoomed off”,
the police boss stated, adding that the suspects thereafter threatened to rape her. Luck, however, ran against them when the victim managed to open the booth of the car and started screaming for help at a traffic snarl along Independence layout, Enugu. Her shout for help attracted residents and policemen on patrol who succeeded one of the abductors while the others escaped. Recalling her experience, Rita told Saturday Sun: “I went to buy something and when I wanted to enter my car, suddenly I saw four men pointing guns at me and gave me a slap and collected all my money, ATM card, gold and threw me inside the boot of my car, shot into the air and zoomed off. As we got to the traffic I summoned courage and I opened the boot and jumped out and I started shouting before the policemen and the people chased the kidnappers and they abandoned the car.” In his confession, one of the suspected kidnappers, 35- year-old Emmanuel Nnamani said: “We are a gang of four and our operation is that after we collect items from our victim we must rape them if they are female. We got to a traffic because we were planning to rape her and we have already told her. We didn’t know when she jumped out from the car’s boot and we heard the voice and we too jumped out of the car and the police and other people started chasing us and they arrested me”, he explained. In a related development, SARS detectives have arrested two suspects for duping several victims. The suspects, ThankGod Ogwuejiofor, 38 and Chibueze Aniorji, 37, allegedly told one of their victims, Ndidi that they have some goods imported from Italy, which they told her to raise some money to buy. After collecting her money, the suspects were also said to have lured the lady to their hideout along Agbeni road off Ona lane Enugu where they raped her. The matter was later reported to the police after which SARS operatives arrested the two suspects. CP Adamu said that the suspects would soon be charged to court.
