  • Why Buhari Didn’t Make Assets Public – Aides

LAGOS—Aides of President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, explained why the president did not declare his assets publicly. They said he will make his assets known to Nigerians within the first 100
days of his stay in power in line with his assertions before the election. Meanwhile, there were mixed reactions, yesterday, on the report that the president and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had submitted their assets declaration to the Code of Conduct Bureau without immediately making them public.

  •  Beijing bans smoking in public spaces
Tough anti-smoking measures have gone into effect in the Chinese capital, where smoking is now banned in restaurants, offices and on public transport. Under the law rolled out on Monday, anyone in Beijing who violates the bans, which include smoking near schools and hospitals, must pay $32.25. The current fine, seldom enforced, is just $1.60. Anyone who breaks the law three times will be named and shamed on a government website. And businesses can be fined up to $1,600 for failing to stamp out smoking on their premises. The government will also no longer allow cigarettes to be sold to shops within 100 metres of primary schools and kindergartens, according to state media.

Lagos signs Ikeja, Ikoyi, Apapa model city plansThe Lagos State Government has signed three model city plans to guide physical development of different areas of the metropolis in the next 10 years. This is in line with its determination to ensure a better, safe and economically viable human settlement in the metropolis. They are the Ikoyi/Victoria Island, Agege/IfakoIjaiye and Apapa model city plans. The immediate past Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Toyin Ayinde, said during the presentation of the plans after their official signing, that they were approved by the State Executive Council under Governor Babatunde Fashola. According to him, the model city plans had earlier been signed for implementation.

  • Osinbajo Takes Full Charge Of Aso Villa Chapel
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday formally took over the mantle of leadership of the villa chapel located inside Aso Rock, Abuja. Osinbajo attended service in the chapel for the first time accompanied by his wife, Dolapo; Bishop Wale Oke of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries; Senior Pastor, Living Waters Unlimited Church, Pastor Ladi Thompson and other clerics. Being a pastor himself, the vice president did not only deliver a goodwill message to the congregation but also conducted the benediction.

  • 2 Days After, Benue Politicians Anxious Over Delay In Appointments
Barely 48 hours after the inauguration of Benue State governor Samuel Ortom, politicians in the state are anxious over the seeming delay in the announcement of new appointments by the governor. The politicians, including bigwig members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and that of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that recently defected to the new governing party, are engaged in consultation and lobbying to gain the various political appointments in the new administration of Governor Ortom. But Ortom has said that appointments into his cabinet would strictly be made according to excellence and competence, not by political association, lobbying or nomination from political godfathers.
