The Management of the National Universities Commission (NUC), on Thursday, said degrees obtained online by Nigerians from any foreign tertiary institution would not be accepted as a means of seeking employment or doing other legitimate business with governments in the country. The agency, therefore warned Nigerians against patronising such online institutions, most of which offer academic programmes without physical contact with their students. Yakasai, made the clarification in Abuja, against the backdrop of some foreign universities that allegedly advertise for and admit students from Nigeria. He said the nation’s constitution has no backing or recognition for such degrees obtained online, insisting that students look for cheap means of acquiring qualifications. His words, “Nigeria will not recognise online degrees. Online degrees are not accepted in Nigeria at the moment,the Nigerian constitution does not even give recognition to such degrees”.
