A 34-year old pregnant woman identified as Joy Ikhuenbor was on Wednesday arraigned before an Egor Magistrate Court in Edo state for allegedly beating another pregnant woman, Gift Nkechi to coma. The beating was said to have occurred at No 3 Ikhuenbor lane off Odion Street, Evbuotubu Quarters in Egor local government area. Joy who is said to be about eight months pregnant was accused of biting Nkechi to stupor resulting in the victim developing complications that led to a
caesarean session to be performed on Nkechi to remove her baby. The accused person who was arraigned on a two-count charge of beating with fist blow and causing bodily harm through human bite pleaded not guilty to the charges. The offenses are punishable under sections 351 and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol. II Laws of defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo State. Presiding Magistrate, William Aziegbemhin, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety who must be a House owner and live within the court jurisdiction. The case was adjourned to September 29, 2015.
